A ban on the importation and sale of used underwear took effect last month amidst petitions by second-hand dealers for the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) to reconsider its decision.

According to the GSB other second-hand goods affected by the ban include handkerchiefs, mattresses and sanitary wear. However, goods already imported into the country will be allowed to be sold.

The head of marketing and public relations of the GSB, Kofi Amponsah Bediako explained that the decision to ban certain second-hand items is to protect consumers. He added that the
ban will not be reviewed under any circumstance.
