Chief executive officer of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) in Ghana, Owusu Agyeman Duah, says OMCs should expect tougher regulations in 2012.

A number of firms have already started feeling the heat after 12 were closed down for poor maintenance of their facilities. Agyemang Duah vowed to identify companies that do not meet safety requirements.

“We, together with the NPA, are almost finished with a draft on LPG stations,” he told the local media recently. “We realise that some plants lack the basic safety necessities and so together with the NPA we can bring those lacking stations up to standard.”

Meanwhile, one of the marketing companies has admitted that some of their members short-change customers, although most OMCs have collaborated to find ways of solving the problem.
